Vol. 99 No. 16

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Serving of Prison Sentences.

asked the Minister for Justice if he is aware that Miss Marian Cassidy of Bogtaduff, Ballaghaderreen, was sentenced to two months' imprisonment at Ballaghaderreen District Court in November last on a charge of voting while under the statutory age, and that her mother, Mrs. Catherine Cassidy, received a similar sentence for inducing her to vote, and if he will state whether these sentences have been served; and, if not, the reasons why they have not been served.

Mr. Boland

The sentences imposed in these cases were remitted on the suggestion of the justice concerned. I am advised, moreover, that the orders were bad, and incapable of being enforced inasmuch as they imposed penalties not authorised by the statute.
