Vol. 100 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Sale of County Mayo Holding.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state why permission to sell the holding of Mary Molloy, of Gneeve, County Mayo, Collection Number 3986, was refused; why the holding was not vested in above tenant since 1919; and also the nature of the report, if any, of the Land Commission officer in Castlebar on the question for or against resumption of the holding.

Mr. Boland

The holding of Mrs. Mary Molloy, who is a widow without family, is non-residential and has been set in grazing for years past. The resumption of this holding was under consideration in 1940, but owing to emergency restrictions no action was taken. Application to the Appeal Tribunal is now about to be made for leave to resume this holding for the relief of congestion among the tenants of adjacent uneconomic holdings.

Pending the preparation of a scheme for the relief of congestion among the occupiers of uneconomic holdings in this area none of the holdings can be vested in the tenants.

It is not the practice of the Land Commission to disclose the nature or contents of the reports of their officers.
