Vol. 100 No. 16

Written Answers. - Capitation Payment in Schools.

asked the Minister for Education what portion of the £1,250,000, by which his recent offer to the teachers was estimated to exceed the sum paid in 1938 was ear-marked for the payment of schools paid on a capitation basis.

The total cost of the new scales of salary and other grants offered to teachers of national schools was estimated at £1,250,000 above the cost of the existing scales and grants which have been in operation since 1st April, 1938. Of this amount, it is estimated that the increase in grants to the conductors of capitation schools would cost about £203,000 above the cost of grants at the existing rates, payable since the 1st April, 1938.
