Vol. 101 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Supplies of Potatoes.

asked the Minister for Agriculture whether he is aware that there is, at the moment, in Wexford, a big surplus of eating potatoes, of good table varieties, for which there is no sale; and if he will state whether these potatoes will be included in the supplies of foodstuffs to be sent through the Irish Red Cross Society for the relief of distress in Europe.

I am informed that there is only a small surplus of ware potatoes in Wexford. Licences for the export of this surplus have been issued. The intention is to send the potatoes to the Continent.

Is the Minister aware that there are big supplies of potatoes in County Wexford now? In Gorey every Saturday the farmers are bringing potatoes into the market and at the present time they are compelled to sell them at 18/- a barrel of 24 stone. Is the Minister aware of that?

The licences are issued. Is that not good enough?
