asked the Minister for Finance whether he is aware that proposals for the construction of a mountain road from Glesk to Derra, Sneem, County Kerry, were submitted to his Department some years ago; that the provision of this road would enhance the district as a tourist centre and, in addition, reduce the distance for persons travelling from Glesk to Sneem from nine miles to three miles; and if, in the circumstances, he will ensure that the scheme is commenced as soon as possible.

The proposed work has been inspected and reported on by one of my inspectors. Owing to its high cost, it is not a work which would normally be undertaken as a minor employment scheme, and we have at present proposals for other works in the same areas which are more suitable as employment schemes. I am prepared, however, when these latter have been disposed of, to consider the work referred to by Deputy Flynn, subject to the unemployment position at the time.
