Vol. 113 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price and Export of Turkeys.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he can state (a) the price which producers will obtain for this season's turkeys; (b) whether it is intended to permit the sending of turkeys as gifts to people in Great Britain; and (c) if a levy will be imposed on turkeys as in previous years.

(a) As the Deputy is no doubt aware, the exporting organisation—Eggsports, Ltd.—has been authorised to pay to poultry exporters as from 8th November, the full price received from the buyers of turkeys in Great Britain. The effect of this should be to increase the producers' price by 5d. per lb. live-weight over last season's price.

(b) As announced, it is proposed to grant permits for the export of gift turkeys to immediate relatives in Great Britain.

(c) No levy will be imposed on turkeys exported this year.

May I ask the Minister is it permissible for a person residing in Great Britain to receive one turkey from more than one relative in this country, and is it permissible for a person residing in this country to send one gift turkey to more than one relative at the other side?

I can answer the second part of the Deputy's supplementary question off-hand. A person in this country can send a gift turkey to more than one relative in England. I am not in a position at the moment to answer the first part.
