Vol. 113 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Cost of Maize.

asked the Minister for Agriculture if he will state (a) the cost of maize, ex ship, in Cork in December, 1948, and (b) the price farmers and millers should be expected to pay for whole maize, ex ship and ex store, Cork, during the present month.

The precise assessment of the price of maize ex ship cannot be made pending the delivery of certain detailed information regarding costs not yet available, but if the Deputy will repeat his question early in the New Year I hope to be able to provide the information he requires.

As regards the second part of the question, no change has been made in the prices obtaining for some time past. It is proposed, however, to reduce the price of maize and to alter the present distribution structure as from the 1st January next. An announcement in this matter will be made shortly.
