asked the Minister for Social Welfare if he will state the total increase in a twelve months' period, or for such shorter period for which figures are available, in contributions under the Unemployment Insurance, National Health Insurance and Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts since the new rates imposed by the Social Welfare Act, 1948, became operative.
Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Social Welfare Act Contributions.
The latest date up to which figures of insurance stamps sold are available is 31st July, 1949. The total increase in the ten months' period ending on that day in contributions under the Unemployment Insurance, National Health Insurance and Widows' and Orphans' Pensions Acts since the new rates imposed by the Social Welfare Act, 1948, became operative is as follows:—
Unemployment insurance |
£254,267 |
National health insurance |
£325,253 |
Widows' and orphans' pensions insurance |
£205,219 |
The figure quoted in respect of unemployment insurance is affected by the fact that from 4th October, 1948, the upper limit of insurability fixed by the Unemployment Insurance Acts for non-manual workers was raised from £250 to £500 per annum.
