Vol. 122 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Fuel Supplies.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce whether he is aware that coal and turf fuel distributors find it difficult to obtain adequate quantities for domestic use in Dublin City and County; and, if so, if he will state whether the quantity of machine turf produced this season is sufficient to meet next winter's requirements and whether regular supplies of coal are assured.

I am not aware that distributors of coal and turf have any difficulty in obtaining stocks.

As regards the availability of supplies of machine-won turf, I would refer the Deputy to the reply given to Deputy Patrick J. Burke on 13th July, 1950.

I have no reason to think that coal merchants will not make provision for next winter's requirements. There are no restrictions on the importation of coal and there is no reason that I know of why coal merchants should not be able to import enough coal to supply the full needs of the market.
