Vol. 122 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Purchase of Erne Fisheries Company's Rights.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will state with reference to his reply to a question on May 31st in which he stated that the Electricity Supply Board had agreed with the Erne Fisheries Company to purchase that company's fishing rights (1) whether the conveyance has yet been executed by the parties; and, if not, the reasons for the delay; (2) the compensation payable to the fisheries company under the agreement; (3) whether he is aware that the Electricity Supply Board stated by public notice on May 25th that angling rights upstream of Cathleen's Falls remain under the control of the Erne Fisheries and if he will explain this position, and (4) whether permits for rod fishing downstream of Cathleen's Falls are issued on behalf of the board by the manager of the fisheries company at the company's office; and, if so, whether it is proposed to continue this arrangement.

I am informed by the Electricity Supply Board that the conveyance has not yet been executed as the investigation of title has not yet been completed. I do not consider it desirable to disclose the amount of compensation payable under the agreement. The board inform me that the position concerning the other matters referred to in the question is that, under the agreement, the Erne Fisheries Company retain the rod fishing rights upstream from Cathleen's Falls until such time as the dam at Cathleen's Falls is closed by the board when these rights revert to the board. Pending completion of the transfer of the fisheries to the board, the company will issue licences for rod fishing downstream from Cathleen's Falls on behalf. of the board. The method of issuing permits following acquisition has not yet been settled by the board.
