Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rearrangement of Holdings.

asked the Minister for Lands whether he is aware that the people resident in the villages of Derryvealawama, Derryvoreada, Tamnaghmore, Lehenagh North, Illion West and Cloonacarton on the Connolly estate, Connemara, are unable to avail themselves of housing grants pending the rearrangement of their holdings; and if he will state when such rearrangement will be effected.

This is one of many congested areas in need of rearrangement. Rearrangement will be undertaken as soon as sufficient lands are available to enable an adequate scheme to be prepared. Meanwhile it is necessary to defer applications for housing grants where the erection of dwellings at this stage would conflict with the proposed rearrangement.

Will the Minister say how soon it is expected he can do it?

The inspectors are working on it at the moment but the ultimate completion of it depends largely on the 45 tenants concerned.
