Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Price of Land.

asked the Minister for Lands if he will state what qualities of land he referred to in reply to a question on the 16th instant when he quoted the average price per acre of land purchased by agreement with owners as £21 per acre, whether all this land was of first quality and what acreage, if any, was of poor quality, and the price per acre of the latter.

The quality of the land in question ranges from very good arable and grazing to coarse grazing and cutaway bog. Estates as a rule comprise lands of varying quality and, as the price is fixed for each estate as a whole, it is not possible to furnish the information sought in the last part of the question. However, taking each estate as a unit, the average price per acre varies from £37 to as low as 12/-. These prices are in respect of the lands subject to any existing annuity.
