Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Foxford Industries.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is prepared to encourage the Foxford industries to establish a similar industry in South Connemara and to subsidise that industry in its early years, if necessary.

Whilst no application on behalf of Foxford industries has been made to me, I am prepared to encourage any group to establish a sound industry in South Connemara, but I could not recommend the Government to subsidise it. The woollen and worsted industry is amply protected against external competition.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that the Industrial Development Association is not prepared to give any material assistance for industries in Connemara? All they could offer in a recent case was their benediction for people who were going to establish an industry west of Galway.

I am sure that was a great help.

If the Deputy has a specific question, he should put it down.
