Vol. 123 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Export of Pigs.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state the total number of live pigs exported from the Republic of Ireland by all routes during the past three months and during the same period in 1949, and, further, the number of pigs delivered to bacon factories during the two periods.

The total number of live pigs exported from the Republic of Ireland by all routes during the three months August, September and October, 1950, was 1,614. No live pigs were exported during the corresponding period in 1949. The total numbers of pigs delivered to bacon factories in the same periods were 204,528 and 189,591 respectively.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that if the mass emigration of pigs during the past couple of weeks had not been stopped it would have completely obliterated the Border?
