On the 22nd August last the Kildare County Council requested sanction to certain increases in the remuneration of part-time fire brigade personnel employed by them. The matter has been under consideration in conjunction with similar proposals from other local authorities. I propose to give a general ruling in the near future enabling rates of pay to be varied by local authorities in a manner which will, I think, work out not less favourably to the employees concerned than the proposals submitted for sanction by Kildare County Council.
