asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he is aware that there is a vast area of bog at Byhallagh, Attymass, Ballina (Nicholson estate); and, if so, what steps Bord na Móna propose to take to develop these bogs so as to provide employment for the local uneconomic land holders, and also provide good quality fuel for the local towns of Ballina and Foxford.

I am informed by Bord na Móna that the area of bog at Byhallagh, Attymass, Ballina, has not so far been surveyed owing to its high altitude and possible steep gradients. It will, however, be further investigated in connection with the development of bogs in the district generally.
I understand that there are ample supplies of good quality hand-won turf available for Ballina and Foxford.
