Vol. 131 No. 14

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Hide and Leather Prices.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will arrange to have an early decision made on the question of the prices of hides and leather and, further, if, in fixing such prices, he will indicate that no variation in such prices will take place until the expiration of a defined period, thus assisting the restoration of stability and sales actively in the boot and shoes manufacturing industry.

I have recently agreed to a revised scale of prices for hides and particulars of the new prices have already been communicated to the Federation of Tanners and Curriers of Ireland, Ltd. I do not anticipate that there will be any necessity for further revision of hide prices in the foreseeable future and I do not consider it necessary in the circumstances to indicate a specific period for the operation of the revised prices. The revised prices for hides will not permit of a reduction in existing leather prices for some time to come.

Is the Minister in a position to give us particulars of the new schedule of prices?

The Deputy will have to give me notice of that question.

Might I trouble the Minister to let me have at his convenience a line giving me the particulars?
