Vol. 136 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Reconstruction of County Cork Schools.

asked the Minister for Education whether any proposals have been submitted to him for (a) the reconstruction of Drimoleague National School and (b) the reconstruction of Dunmanway School and the improvement of the roadway leading thereto; and, if so, if he will indicate what grants are to be made available and when the work is likely to be executed.

Proposals are under consideration for the carrying out of works to Drimoleague Boys' and Girls' National Schools and to St. Mary's Convent Girls' and Infants' National Schools, Dunmanway, including the resurfacing of the right-of-way from the main road to the latter schools. I am informed by the Commissioners of Public Works that they will furnish my Department, without delay, with reports as to the works of improvement and maintenance which they consider should be executed at these schools. On receipt of the reports my Department will communicate with the respective managers in regard to the proposals.

I am not in a position to say, at present, what grants can be sanctioned towards the cost of the necessary improvements, or when it is likely that the works will be put in hands.

I think it well to add that grants would not be admissible towards the cost of any maintenance works which may be required, as such works will be a local liability.
