Vol. 147 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rural Electrification.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. the present position in regard to the proposed extension of rural electrification to the Barraduff-Glenflesk area, County Kerry.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the position of this area has improved as a result of further acceptances which have been obtained since the area was first considered by the board last year. I am not, however, in a position to state when development of the area is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. the reason why rural electrification has not yet been extended to the Cashel rural area.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Cashel area has been considered for selection by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme but has not so far been selected as its returns have not compared favourably with those of other areas still awaiting development in the board's Limerick district. I am not in a position to state when development of the area is likely to take place.

asked the Minister for Industry and Commerce if he will ascertain from the E.S.B. the reason why rural electrification has not yet been extended to the parish of Gortnahoe, South Tipperary.

I am informed by the E.S.B. that the Gortnahoe area was recently selected by the board for development under the rural electrification scheme and it is expected that work will be undertaken within a few months on the erection of the network in the area.
