Vol. 158 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Small Dwellings Loans.

asked the Minister for Local Government whether he is aware that, arising out of his policy in regard to eligibility for loans under the Small Dwellings (Acquisition) Acts, only a small percentage of the classes formerly eligible for loans will be eligible in future; and if he will make alternative arrangements with local authorities in connection with the housing of such persons.

As recently announced, alternative arrangements are being made for a guarantee scheme in which local authorities would participate and for which it is proposed to make provision in the Housing (Amendment) Bill, 1956.

Is the Minister aware that the alternative arrangements referred to here are not materialising? Is the Minister further aware that this state of affairs exists in local authorities—I am referring particularly to the local authority in County Dublin—as a result of his directions to them? I do not see any use in asking supplementary questions on this because the matter is too involved. I have a file of letters here from my constituents dealing with the subject and, with your permission, Sir, I would like to raise this question on the Adjournment along with two questions of yesterday, Nos. 31 and 32.

The Deputy must be specific as to what he intends to raise.

I wish to raise the matter of the three questions I have mentioned.

I shall communicate with the Deputy.
