Vol. 159 No. 7

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Exports of Whiskey.

asked the Taoiseach if he will state in respect of 1955 (a) the total quantity, and (b) the total value, of exports of Irish whiskey, differentiating in each case between potstill and blended whiskeys.

Domestic exports in 1955 of home-made whiskey amounted to 144,130 proof gallons in quantity and to £268,405 in value. Separate particulars for potstill and blended whiskeys are not available.

Would the Parliamentary Secretary be able to tell us where lies the difficulty in segregating the figures? Surely it should be possible to segregate the figures in view of the fact that the export of blended whiskey is but of recent occurrence?

I am afraid I cannot supply that information.

I think the Parliamentary Secretary should endeavour to obtain it.
