The total amount paid to health authorities under the Health Services (Financial Provisions) Act, 1947, in the financial year 1956-57 was £7,925,418. As the statutes under which the health services are provided form a joint code, it is not possible to segregate the payments made to meet commitments of health authorities under the Health Act, 1953.
