Vol. 161 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Waterford Special Allowances.

asked the Minister for Defence if he will state the names and addresses of persons resident in the constituency of Waterford who are in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts, the amount paid in each case, and the brigade in which each person served.

As the reply is in the form of a tabular statement, I propose, a Cheann Comhairle, with your permission, to have it circulated with the Official Report.

It would not be practicable to compile the list on the basis of the brigades in which the applicants claimed to have served. As it would be contrary to established departmental practice to supply the addresses of the persons concerned, I regret that such information cannot be supplied.

Following is the statement:—

LIST of Persons resident in constituency of Waterford who are in receipt of special allowances under the Army Pensions Acts and the annual amount of the allowance in each case.

Would the Minister consider the advisability of giving this type of information concerning Army pensions and Army allowances other than by oral answer in the Dáil? Is the Minister aware that a good deal of embarrassment is caused to recipients of Army allowances because of these questions in the Dáil?

That is a separate matter altogether.
