Vol. 165 No. 3

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Anti-Tuberculosis Campaign.

asked the Minister for Health if he will state the total amounts spent in respect of the anti-tuberculosis campaign for (a) capital, and (b) current purposes, including allowances to 31st March, 1956.

In view of the fact that the anti-tuberculosis campaign may be said to have commenced in the early part of the present century with the enactment of the Tuberculosis Prevention (Ireland) Act, 1908, the Deputy will, I hope, realise that it would be quite impracticable for me to furnish the information for which he has asked. If, however, he would repeat his question restricting its scope to a recent period and stating whether he desires details of expenditure from local as well as central funds, I shall endeavour to furnish him with the information he requires. I think it well to mention, however, that it may not be possible to identify in full and to segregate all expenditure on the tuberculosis service prior to the passage of the Health Services (Financial Provisions) Act, 1947.
