Vol. 170 No. 6

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Irish Citizens in Iraq.

asked the Minister for External Affairs if he will state whether he has any information about the position of Irish citizens in Iraq; and what steps, if any, he can take to look after their interests.

I have no information about the position of Irish citizens in Iraq. As the Deputy is aware, we have no diplomatic or consular representation in that country, but I have taken steps to request a friendly Power that has representation there to look after the interests of Irish citizens.

Would the Minister mention who or what is the friendly Power?

I should prefer not to mention it at the moment, until the matter is completed.
