Vol. 194 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Passage East (Waterford) Power Station.

17.

andMr. T. Lynch asked the Minister for Transport and Power what proposals are before his Department for a new power station for the ESB at Passage East, County Waterford; and what is the estimated cost of this station.

The present approved generating plant programme of the E.S.B. covering the period up to 1967 does not include a new power station at Passage East. In anticipation of a continuing increase in demand for electricity the Board is exploring sites for possible additional power stations and a site at Passage East is one of those at present being investigated. The cost of an additional station would depend on its capacity.

Can the Minister say what the cost is likely to be?

It depends on the size of the station.

Is there no estimate?

There are estimates which I could give to the Deputy——

Is it half a million pounds?

——if he would like to ask another question. I wish to be reasonably precise.

I thought the Minister might be courteous.
