Vol. 194 No. 11

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Donegal Water and Sewerage Schemes.

20.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in sanctioning the following schemes in County Donegal: (1) Malin Head water scheme (2) Fanad regional water scheme, and (3) extensions to Derryhassen-Dooey and Umlagh in the Carrigart-Downings water scheme; and if he will take steps to hasten sanction in view of the great need for the schemes in all these areas.

There has been no undue delay in dealing with the proposals in question. The Malin Head and the Fanad regional water supply schemes are major proposals which are being examined by my Department's engineering staff in consultation with the County Councils' engineering staff and the Consultant Engineers. The examination involves inspection of sources of supply and pipelines, and the submission of additional technical data. Discussions in regard to the proposed extensions are also taking place.

Every effort is being made to complete the examination of the proposals as soon as possible.

asked the Minister for Local Government the cause of the delay in sanctioning sewerage schemes for Carrigart, Kilmacrennan, Creeslough, Manorcunningham, Newtowncunningham, and Carrigans, County Donegal; and if he will take steps to speed up consideration of these schemes.

There can be no question of delay in sanctioning sewerage schemes for these areas as the schemes have not yet been prepared. Approval issued last month to the Council's proposals for the appointment of Consulting Engineers to prepare preliminary reports on these schemes.
