Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - North Mayo Holdings.

69.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Lands the number of holdings being investigated with a view to acquisition by the Land Commission in the constituency of North Mayo; and, if possible, if he will state the various holdings it is proposed to acquire, and the total acreage that will be made available for distribution amongst the uneconomic holders in the constituency.

Land Commission records are not compiled by reference to constituency areas. Perhaps, however, it might meet the Deputy's requirements to know that, in County Mayo as a whole at present, inquiries with a view to instituting acquisition proceedings are being made in relation to an aggregate area of about 2,300 acres comprising some 68 properties; while proceedings are actually in progress for acquisition of a further area of about 5,000 acres comprising 157 properties. It is not possible at this stage to indicate what proportion of these lands will ultimately be acquired.

If the Deputy is interested in any particular lands, I would suggest that he communicate direct with the Land Commission about them.
