Vol. 201 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Allocation of Mayo Lands.

70.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Lands when it is proposed to allocate the Corcoran estate at Doonaroya, Boghadoon, Ballina, County Mayo; and how many tenants it is hoped to give additions of land to on this estate.

It is not yet possible to indicate when these lands—comprising some 73 acres, apart from commonage shares—which were transferred to the Land Commission by way of exchange last March will be allocated but there will be no undue delay. The lands have been let for the coming season.

71.

Mr. Browne

asked the Minister for Lands if he is aware of the number of uneconomic holdings at Carha, Bonnyconlon, County Mayo; and if he will take immediate steps to acquire the lands of Mr. Michael Gillard, which have been offered to the Land Commission for distribution amongst the congested tenants in the area.

I am aware that there is congestion in this district. The lands referred to are being investigated by my Department but it is still too early to say what the outcome will be.
