Vol. 215 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dublin Dangerous Dwellings.

13.

asked the Minister for Local Government if he will state (a) the number of dwellings in Dublin city declared dangerous in 1964, (b) the number of dangerous dwellings still housing families, (c) the number of prosecutions against owners of dwellings declared dangerous who subsequently permitted occupation of these unfit houses, and (d) when the entire city will be cleared of dangerous dwellings.

I understand from Dublin Corporation that 425 dwellings in Dublin city were declared dangerous in 1964 and that only one of these dwellings is still occupied. In all 61 dangerous dwellings are at present occupied. There were no prosecutions against owners of dwellings declared dangerous for subsequently permitting occupation of these houses. It is not possible to indicate when the entire city will be cleared of dangerous dwellings.

Is the Parliamentary Secretary aware that many dangerous buildings were subsequently occupied and that prosecutions were not enforced against the owners of the dangerous buildings?

I am not so aware.

That answer is not very satisfactory.

Mr. O'Leary

Would the Minister be in a position to hear any facts we might bring before him? Would he listen to the facts if we go on a deputation to him?

I have no doubt the Minister would be very anxious to hear any facts.
