Vol. 222 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Bacon Factories.

32.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries whether any bacon factory has been closed down for failing to produce bacon of a sufficiently high quality.

While no bacon factory's licence has been cancelled for the reason stated in the question, the Pigs and Bacon Commission has largely ceased purchasing bacon for export from one factory.

Is it not true the Minister told me in answer to a supplementary question a short time ago that in fact he had closed down a bacon factory?

My recollection was at fault when I was replying to the Deputy by way of supplementary. It was this factory I had in mind. My recollection was that we had stopped purchasing bacon entirely from this factory, but that was not accurate. We have practically stopped buying bacon for export from it.
