Vol. 222 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Suppressors on Electrical Appliances.

88.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs if he intends to introduce legislation to make it compulsory to have suppressors fitted on all electrical appliances so as to eliminate interference on radio and television.

I already have certain powers under the Wireless Telegraphy Act, 1926, as amended by the Broadcasting Authority Act, 1960, to deal with radio and television interference; and statutory regulations now apply to interference from small electric motors. For the present at any rate, I do not consider it necessary to introduce further legislation.

On the general question of what action is being taken to reduce the level of interference, I would refer the Deputy to the reply I gave on 26th January, 1966, to a question by Deputy Briscoe.
