asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs when VHF radio transmissions will commence and whether good quality reception of Radio Éireann will be available over the whole country.

Radio Telefís Éireann has not yet decided when regular VHF transmissions will commence. I understand, however, that it is hoped to have the five main transmitters in operation by the end of this year and that the satellite transmitters which will be required to serve parts of Donegal, Kerry and West Cork will be provided as soon as possible thereafter. When all these transmitters are in operation it is expected that good quality reception of Radio Éireann will be available over practically the whole country.
