Vol. 241 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Suspension of Driving Licences.

36.

asked the Minister for Justice the number of motorists whose driving licences were suspended in each of the past five years, ended 30th September, 1968, following conviction for drunken driving.

The crime statistics do not distinguish between driving while drunk and attempting to drive while drunk. Conviction of either offence entails automatic disqualification for holding a driving licence. The following are the convictions for these offences in the five years ended 30th September, 1968: 1968, 906; 1967, 884; 1966, 844; 1965, 957; 1964, 858.
