Vol. 242 No. 9

Ceisteann—Questions. Oral Answers. - Dún Laoghaire Housing Applicants.

17.

asked the Minister for Local Government the total number of approved housing applicants currently registered with Dún Laoghaire Borough Corporation; and the total number who will be rehoused by the Corporation by 31st December, 1969.

Information as to the number of approved housing applicants who may be rehoused by the corporation by 31st December next is not available in my Department, as housing authorities are no longer required to submit to me particulars of housing applicants, or of casual vacancies, in justification of housing proposals.

On the basis of the corporation's assessment of housing needs in October, 1967, as abated by families since rehoused by them, a total of about 500 new dwellings would now be required to meet estimated housing needs in the period to 31st March, 1971. To meet this need, the corporation are building 220 dwellings. In addition, they have development work in progress for another 200 houses, have made 70 sites available for private dwellings and have 26 houses at tender stage. They have also received my approval in principle to plans for another 400 dwellings.
