Vol. 243 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Drainage.

38.

asked the Minister for Finance what the present position is regarding the drainage scheme for Ballough river near Lusk, County Dublin; and if he will state on account of the extensive flooding of adjoining farm lands what steps are being taken to increase the size of the bridge at Ballough.

The Ballough river is noted by the Commissioners of Public Works for consideration under the arterial drainage programme. Having regard to present commitments and the extent of the drainage problem throughout the country it is not possible to say when it might be reached in the programme. The commissioners have no responsibility for the bridge at Ballough.

Does this river come under the intermediate scheme which is supposed to be introduced?

It is one of 400 intermedite catchments which we are not doing at present.

Has the Parliamentary Secretary any idea when a start will be made on these 400?

I am having this matter reviewed at the moment but under the present policy we are not doing this at all.

Is there any arterial work that could be done for land badly flooded in that area?
