Vol. 248 No. 15

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Continental Parcel Post.

112.

asked the Minister for Posts and Telegraphs what the procedure is in relation to the dispatch to or collection by addresses of parcels from the Continent; whether any time limits are involved; and if he will detail them.

All incoming parcels are presented to the customs authorities for examination and when cleared by the customs are delivered in normal course by my Department.

If the customs authorities require documents such as invoices or import licences to be produced before clearing a parcel, they request the addressee to do so within fourteen days. If he fails to do so a final notice is sent warning him that unless he takes action within seven days the parcel will be treated as having been refused. Refused parcels are normally returned to the senders by my Department.
