19.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the urgent need for a new fully equipped science room in Ferbane vocational school, County Offaly; if he has sanctioned the provision of such a science room; and, if so, when in fact such a room will be provided.

With the permission of the Ceann Comhairle I propose to take Questions Nos. 18 and 19 together.

My Department has approved the provision of new science rooms at Banagher and Ferbane vocational schools. It is hoped that they can be provided shortly after the Christmas holidays. The rooms will be fully equipped.

Can the Minister state how soon after Christmas the rooms will be supplied? As the Minister is aware, the pupils require to have these science rooms in order to get practical knowledge of their subjects. If they have not got these rooms they will be at a disadvantage. Many of the pupils will require science as a subject to help them to qualify for the grants under the higher education scheme.

The Deputy can take it that they will have the rooms as quickly as possible after Christmas.
