Vol. 251 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Housebuilding Costs.

41.

asked the Minister for Local Government the average cost to a local authority of building a two-bedroom house and a three-bedroom house respectively in 1964 and 1970; and how this compared with the cost of building same in County Wicklow.

The average building cost of a typical three bedroomed local authority house—excluding rural cottages—in 1964-65 was of the order of £2,025. On the basis of tenders sanctioned during the current financial year, the average building cost of such a house is estimated at £2,800 approximately. Comparable figures for County Wicklow are £2,185 and £2,975 respectively. No two bedroom houses were provided in either 1964 or 1970 by the Wicklow housing authorities.
