Vol. 252 No. 10

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Tipperary School.

54.

asked the Minister for Education if he will give permission for the school at Skeheenarinky, Burncourt, Cahir, County Tipperary to be used for Mass on Sunday mornings because the parish church is a long distance away.

55.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the concern about his Department's proposals to close Skeheenarinky national school, Burncourt, Cahir, County Tipperary; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

With your permission, a Cheann Comhairle, I propose to take Questions Nos. 54 and 55 together.

There are no immediate plans in my Department to close Skeheenarinky school. The feasibility of providing for the primary educational need of the children of the area by means of amalgamating the school with another school or schools in the locality would have to be considered however if Skeheenarinky became a two-teacher school.

In regard to the use of Skeheenarinky school for Sunday Mass this would be a matter for the manager in the first instance.
