Vol. 268 No. 5

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - County Dublin Community Schools.

57.

asked the Minister for Education the present position regarding the provision of community schools in the County Dublin area.

Mr. R. Burke

It is proposed to cater for the immediate post-primary needs of the County Dublin area by the provision of community schools in Ballinteer, Cabinteely and Malahide. In the longer term, community schools are proposed for the Bulally/ Sandyford and the Holylands, Rathfarnham, areas as well as additional community schools in the Tallaght and Blanchardstown areas, when the population growth in these areas warrants such provision.

In reply to Question No. 55 the Minister indicated there is to be a community school in Skerries. He has not mentioned that in this reply.

Mr. R. Burke

It is a question of the management of the Skerries school being somewhat different. Perhaps that is the reason.

Would the Minister please assure the House of the co-operation of Departmental officials with regard to the planning of the buildings in Malahide? I am on the board of management there and we have trouble about getting agreement with the Departmental officials——

It is an entirely separate question.

I cannot accept that. It is reflected in the reply the Minister has just given.

It does not arise out of this question.

It arises out of the reply he gave in regard to Malahide.

Mr. R. Burke

I will see that the Deputy and the board of management will get all the co-operation it is possible to give them.

Will the Minister indicate the type of board of management there will be in connection with the community school in Skerries? He has said there will be a difference.

Mr. R. Burke

I have not been given that information. If the Deputy puts down a question about it, I will answer it.
