Vol. 268 No. 8

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Rainbow Trout Protection.

65.

asked the Minister for Agriculture and Fisheries if he will take steps to prevent rainbow trout from being killed in the River Dodder as happened on 13th August, 1973; if the cause of death has been established; and if he will give similar information regarding Lough na Glack, County Monaghan.

I have been informed by the Dublin Board of Conservators that the fish-kill referred to in the River Dodder was investigated but the cause of death could not be definitely established. In the circumstances the board was not in a position to take legal action in the matter.

As regards Lough na Glack, I am aware that fish-kills have occurred there periodically and I understand that the Inland Fisheries Trust and the Dundalk Board of Conservators are investigating conditions in the lake.

If the boards would give this information to the Minister in this case, why would they not give the information sought in Question No. 64?

Because the boards had not assembled the information at the time we requested it. We asked the boards for this information —I am going back to the previous question now—and we have asked again.

If I repeat that question in some months' time, perhaps the Parliamentary Secretary would have the information.

I would imagine he could repeat it in a fortnight's time.
