Vol. 272 No. 9

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Old Age Pension Applicants.

11.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare when arrears of an old age pension will be paid to the relatives of a deceased person (name supplied) in County Wicklow.

Arrears of old age noncontributory pension amounting to £110.70 covering the period from 5th October, 1973, to 6th February, 1974, have been issued to the daughter of the person referred to in the Deputy's question. It has now been established that the person concerned was eligible for a reduced rate of old age (contributory) pension and a balance of arrears, amounting to £87.70, after allowing for the amount of non-contributory pension already paid, will be paid in the near future.

12.

asked the Minister for Social Welfare if an old age pension will be paid to an applicant (details supplied) in England.

On the basis of his social insurance record in this country, the person referred to in the Deputy's question does not satisfy the contribution conditions for the award of an old age (contributory) pension. He is, however, in receipt of a British retirement pension and his title to an old age (contributory) pension is being examined under EEC Regulations to see if his pension entitlement could be improved by taking both his British and Irish contributions into account. It is not possible to say at this stage what the outcome is likely to be, but the matter will be dealt with as quickly as possible.
