Vol. 284 No. 1

Ceisteanna—Questions. Oral Answers. - Free School Books' Scheme.

22.

asked the Minister for Education the sums of money allocated under the free school books scheme to St. Paul's school, Lisduggan, Waterford, in the school years 1971-72, 1972-73, 1973-74 and 1974-75; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The amounts of the free book grants paid to St. Paul's national school, Lisduggan, were as follows:

1971-72

£8.00

1972-73

Nil

1973-74

£65.00

1974-75

£200.00

The difference in the amounts paid to this school over the years can be explained by the fact that this being a new school in a developing area, the majority of pupils were, in the earlier years of its existence, in the junior standards. As such they were not eligible to benefit from the free book scheme.
