Vol. 298 No. 9

Written Answers. - Transport Cost Refund.

66.

Mr. O'Leary

asked the Minister for Health if he will carry out a full inquiry into the reasons why a person (name supplied) in County Kerry cannot get a refund of the cost of transport to the county clinic in Tralee in view of the fact that the only income in the household is from the Department of Social Welfare; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The refund of transport costs incurred by a person travelling to a hospital clinic for treatment is a matter for decision by the relevant health board.

I have made inquiries in this case and I understand that the Southern Health Board, having considered all the circumstances, were satisfied that a refund of the cost or assistance towards the cost would not be warranted.
