asked the Minister for Education why the school bus service is being withdrawn from the Fairyhouse Road to Ratoath School, Route 2, County Meath from Easter 1978, since this is a narrow road, with heavy traffic, on which children cannot walk in safety.

Notice of intention to withdraw this service was served on the board of management of Ratoath NS because the number of eligible children availing of the service for the two consecutive terms ended Christmas 1977 had fallen below the minimum number required to maintain the service. It is understood that the same position obtains during the current school term. In the circumstances, the Department have no option under the terms of the free transport scheme but to withdraw the service. A minimum of 10 eligible children availing of the service on a regular basis would be required to re-establish the service.
