The Central Statistics Office is the official source of statistics relating to industrial disputes but statistics are not yet available from that Office for 1978. However, my Department keep approximated figures in relation to industrial disputes and the Department's records show that about 588,000 man-days were lost through such disputes during 1978. The number of disputes recorded during the year was 170.68 per cent of these disputes were unofficial and they accounted for 23 per cent of the man-days lost.
