Vol. 311 No. 1

Written Answers. - Kerry School.

269.

asked the Minister for Education if he is aware of the condition of Toureenard national school, Knocknagoshel, County Kerry; and, if so, when the long overdue repairs to this school will be carried out.

Toureenard national school has a staff of one teacher and an enrolment of 24 pupils. As far back as 1953 the Office of Public Works advised that it should be replaced by a new building. A survey of the pupil potential of the district has revealed that the enrolment in the school would decline further in the forseeable future.

In August 1976 the then Minister decided, in deference to local wishes, that recognition should be continued to the school but only on the strict understanding that the school would be maintained in suitable repair without the aid of State grants.
