Vol. 312 No. 2

Written Answers. - Irish Life Assurance Company Report.

174.

andMr. P. Barry asked the Minister for Finance why the Irish Life Assurance Company is not required to present its annual report and accounts to the Houses of the Oireachtas.

I indicated in reply to a question on 15 February 1979 relating to the semi-State bodies under my aegis that there is no statutory requirement for the presentation to the Oireachtas of the annual report and accounts of the Irish Life Assurance Company Limited. That is the position as far as the Minister for Finance is concerned under the relevant legislation, the Insurance (Amendment) Act, 1938.

Copies of the accounts of all licensed insurers are laid before the Oireachtas in connection with the summary of statements of assurance business presented by the Minister for Industry, Commerce and Energy to both Houses of the Oireachtas every year pursuant to section 27 of the Insurance Act, 1909. I have ascertained that in accordance with those arrangements copies of the annual report of the Irish Life Assurance Company Limited, up to and including 1976, have been laid before the Oireachtas.
