asked the Minister for Education the reason for the delay in issuing the approval for a grant awarded by Tipperary (South Riding) County Council to a student (details supplied) at the Regional College Waterford, and if he will give immediate sanction in view of the financial hardship in this case.

As this course had not been submitted for recognition by the National Council for Educational Awards the question of its recognition for the purpose of the higher education grants scheme had to be specially considered.
It has been decided to allow provisional recognition of the course for the academic years 1979/80 and 1980/1. The question of its recognition subsequent to the academic year 1980/1 will be considered during that year.
The Tipperary (South Riding) County Council have been informed accordingly.
